Mahjong Space

Rules

Mahjong Space Gameplay Rules

Mahjong Space is currently based on the Mahjong Competition Rules set, also known as Chinese Official Scoring, but with no minimum points required to win (aka fan).

Over time, we will continue to add more popular gameplay variants, styles, and configurable house rules. We recommend consulting popular online resources like the Mahjong Wiki or the visual Mahjong Picture Guide for a comprehensive explainer of how to play. Mahjong Space on Apple Vision Pro also comes with a built-in tutorial mode that covers some of the basic mechanics.

Below, for your convenience, we have compiled a full listing of all of the winning hands currently recognized by Mahjong Space, and the corresponding point values awarded for each hand.

1 Point Hands

Pair Wait

Waiting solely for a tile to form a pair. This tile must be the only one that will complete four sets and a pair.

Closed Wait

Waiting solely for the middle tile of a chow. This tile must be the only one that will complete four sets and a pair.

Winning on a 3 to form a 123 chow, or solely for a 7 to form a 789 chow. This tile must be the only one that will complete four sets and a pair.
